In early 2024, the CA Attorney General approved the closure and dissolution of the non-profit hospital, from who’s sale Parkview Legacy Foundation was created. The ruling resulted in the transfer of over 30 million dollars into the stewardship of Parkview Legacy Foundation and its Board of Directors. These assets, coupled with a pledge of 10 million dollars over 10 years from the purchasing hospital operators, AHMC Healthcare, will serve as the invested corpus from which Parkview Legacy Foundation will conduct our philanthropic activities beginning in 2025. We are beyond ecstatic to have finally reached this milestone!

Taking our role as stewards of these resources extremely seriously and knowing that there a many different ways that we could go about using them, the Parkview Legacy Foundation staff and Board of Directors are concluding a 6-month study of philanthropic approaches so that fully informed and educated decisions can be made regarding our approach in the first months of the new year. We have not made those decisions yet, but can assure you of this:
• Our approach will follow our values and core beliefs around the infinite value of every person, integrated partnerships for systems-level change, humility and creativity, relationships, and stewardship.
• We will create policies and processes with our community and future partners at the center of them, so that whatever is developed creates a life-enriching experience for all those involved.
• We will remain strategically focused on impact and positive systemic change toward an equitable community in which it is more likely than not for all community members to experience well-being and create the lives they want for themselves and their families.
Once decisions are made and our infrastructure for implementing them is built we’ll be making announcements to let our region know, and we can use your help in getting the word out, as well. In the meantime and moving forward, collaborative work moving forward positive change in our four focus areas remains core to our operations. We are here and ready as always to roll up our sleeves and do the good work that needs doing. If you are working in the areas of housing stability (humane housing), social mobility (meaningful work and wealth), whole health accessibility, or integrated solutions and want to partner, let us know! If you are working on any of the other 7 Vital Conditions for Thriving People and Places (Thriving Natural World, Transportation, Basic Needs for Health and Safety, Belonging and Civic Muscle, Life Long Learning) make sure to connect with others with similar focusses and across focuses in the IE Vital Conditions Network. We’re conspiring for your good and look forward to doing even more moving forward.
